Competitions

The fair is divided into five divisions:

1. Investigatory Project – experimental research performed on a topic.

Students are encouraged to enter as many divisions as they wish.

Olympiad Event Division: Fun with Chemistry

This event includes a collection of experiments that demonstrate chemical concepts and processes accomplished in both a fun and competitive environment. The event makes chemistry come alive and fosters interest in learning and discovery for students of all ages by participation in hands-on activities.

Any student from schools in our region is encouraged to enter these challenging but fun events. These events will be announced on the day of the fair. It is not necessary that the student also have an exhibit entered to participate in these events. Registration for these events will be held on the day of the fair. By the end of the event, participating students will all receive certificates for Olympiad participation.

Awards

The following types of awards will be made.

Certificate of Participation Every student participating in the project divisions.
(Investigatory Projects, Art Exhibit, Symposium, Submitted papers, and Display projects).

Olympiad Events
Participating students will all receive certificates for Olympiad participation.

School Competition
Olympiad Events and projects are divided into two categories: Biology or Physical Science. Schools will be awarded points for winners in each project division and Olympiad event. Winners in the investigatory projects will be awarded five times more points than the winners of the Olympiad Events. The school with the most points in Biology will be awarded a plaque. The school with the most points in Physical Science will be awards a separate plaque.

Schedule

8:30 – 9:15 am Check-In and Set-up;

Rooms open for setting up exhibits for Investigatory Projects and Display Projects and Art Exhibit. Please bring all projects to the Baisi Center Gym. Family and friends may view the Fair after the judges finish judging all the projects at 11:30 am.

9:15 am Welcome Remarks
9:30 am Symposium division starts

9:30 – 11:30 am Judging
Students must be present at their Investigatory project exhibits during this time (unless they are giving a symposium) so the students can answer the judges; questions. If the student is not present, the project may be disqualified.

11:30 – 12:00 pm Lunch

12:00 – 1:00 pm. Olympiad Event

1:00 – 1:15 pm. Pack-up all exhibits

1:15 – 2:00 pm. Awards Ceremony
Students do not have to be present to win but they do need someone there to pick up their prizes (classmates, teachers, or parents).
